My Attempts At Getting Organised!

By

This week I had to pay to keep the domain name
http://www.andy-michaels for one more year.

This means that I have now had my blog up and running
for one whole year. Personally I find it incredible that
I have managed to keep that going.

Admittedly there always seems to be large gaps between
posts and I have said many times that I intend to post
more often but have always failed to do so.

But, wow. What a year I have had.

I got married just before I set up the blog, moved home
the week after I got married. My wife started a new job
that same week then got pregnant a few months later, we
had our wee boy Danny in December and I quit my job in
the last couple of weeks as well.

That’s a lot to fit in just over a year and a bit!

And that doesn’t take into consideration all the IM work
that I have done as well as doing my normal job!

BUT that is now the past and I am very much looking forward
to the future.

And to do that I have to get ORGANISED!

I strongly believe that you cannot run a profitable,
long lasting business without routine, good systems and
targets (or goals).

Throughout my time in employment I was endlessly frustrated
at the lack of systems in place and it was always the
cause of tension and frustrations in the workplace.

I used to spend many hours developing schedules, checklists
and systems so that everyone knew what had to be done, to what
standard and when. That way there was no confusion over
things and I knew that if it was checked off then it was
done. (I know because I checked)

So why did I think that I could run an Internet business almost
completely by the seat of my pants?

I just didn’t bring the routine that I had in my working life
back into my own business environment and because of that
I failed at what I tried to achieve.

Without goals you do not have anything to aim for.

Without routine you have inaction.

Without systems you have confusion.

So what am I doing to attempt to rectify this situation?

    Hi Andy,

First of all congratulation on getting to the 1 year mark with your blog…not to mention all your other achievements in the last year too!!!

100% agree with you about the need to be organised in this business!

Thanks for sharing the resources in the video. Never heard of Tungle.me before and that looks a really handy application.

  2. Hi Andy.

Great post and some very useful tips..!!
Going over to Tungle.me just now to check it out.

You can never have to much organisation in your business.

Congrats on what you have achieved over the year.

    Malcolm.

  3. Hi Andy,

Firstly, thanks for your comments over on my site.

I also work for myself and it is so much better than having a boss. The other thing is, if your disciplined, you get so much more done in a day.

I agree about goals and plans – without them there will be no success. I’ve been in business for 8 years and have tried both methods. I’ve only made money with one of them!

Congratulations on the quality of your blog and all you have achieved in the last year…..exciting times lay ahead.

    To your success
    Adrian

    Hi Andy

Great blog and see you have had it sometime now.

    Andy:

Getting organized is easy for me, however staying organized is the hard part.

Thanks for the tools you mention in the video. I am going to take a look at them and see how I can implore them to help me with my daily routines.

I think it is also possible to spend too much time getting organized. One can spend too many hours getting organized and not get enough tasks completed each day.

    Thanks Adrian,

I certainly prefer not having a boss but it is definitely
a challenge getting yourself into a routine and treating
    this as your own business.

It isn’t always an immediate transition but it is important
to persevere to build your business.

    Hi Wayne,

    Thanks for your comments.

Lets hope that we can all achieve our goals together
as part of a successful coaching program

    Hi Rick,

I can’t say that I have found it easy to get organized but I would
certainly agree that it is easy to focus too much on the things that
do not earn you any money and always think that because you
are “getting organised” or “setting up systems” then you
    are doing well.

BUT you must do the things that earn you cash!

  9. Hi Andy
Thanks for visiting my site recently, as you said we are both MWA 2 students, but at the moment I havn’t made any money from I.M. That is probably down to me, not Alexs’ course, his content was second to none and I still visit the forum on a regular basis. If your based in the UK maybe we could meet up sometime and compare notes, and I could maybe pick your brain too :-)

I like your site and content, very clean and very smooth, also congratulations on your addition in the past year, I’m amazed you’ve got time or energy to do anything :-)

  10. John Coates says:

    Hi Andy

I think one of the tricks to getting organised is having a clear plan for the day, week, month, etc (sound familiar?)

Start long term, break it down to the 90 days, 30 days…and so on.
Trying to organise yourself without having a plan of what you want to achieve becomes a pointless exercise.

Some great tips in your video – thanks.

    John

  11. Hi Andy,

Nice to make it to your blog!

I’m, thankfully, getting to the point in my business where I have focus but along with that comes a LONG list of what needs to be done.

Been out of the corporate world long enough to have forgotten the absolute necessity for total organization of both space and time.

I need to focus on more long term goals though so I’m working on that.

Back in the swing and loving every minute of it!

    To your success,

    Lesley
